Pharmaprix is a leading supporter of diabetes research and management, stemming from the company’s early affinity with this disease. Support for the cause originated with a group of employees personallyaffected by diabetes. In these earlier years, diabetes management was very different than it is today and a cure was the only hope.
Although major strides were made in the management of diabetes by the 1980’s, Pharmaprix decided to dedicate financial support to finding the cure for diabetes through the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation with donations of well over $1.5 million between 1986 and 1996. In 2009 Pharmaprix is a sponsor of the JDRF Diabetes Research Symposium events.
Pharmaprix recognized a profound need within its patient population to better manage diabetes. A series of cross-Canada training sessions were launched for healthcare professionals. This included education on the use of blood glucose monitors, insulin delivery devices and oral medications, all integral parts in managing diabetes. Some healthcare professionnals went on to gain enhanced diabetes training and became accredited Certified Diabetes Educators (CDE). Today there are more than 150 Certified Diabetes Educators work at Pharmaprix locations across a Quebec. To find out if there’s a CDE in your community, .

Diabetes is all about life-long learning. In support of Pharmaprix’s commitment to ongoing diabetes management the company has partnered with the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) for the past three years, to educate Canadians on how to manage their diabetes. The PharmEXPERT Diabetes Management Program includes answers to 52 of the most frequently asked questions about diabetes. All of this information has been reviewed for scientificand clinical accuracy by the Canadian Diabetes Association and Diabète Québec. This program is accessible at every Pharmaprix pharmacy counter. Another important initiative is the dissemination of CDA’s “Clinical Practice Guidelines”. Knowledge of these guidelines are vital to living well with diabetes. In order to put these guidelines into the hands of Canadians with diabetes, Pharmaprix is the exclusive pharmacy provider of these recommendations. Pharmaprix is also the proud sponsor of information capsules to be aired on Diabète Québec’s website (link to come). These short videos provide advice from all the healthcare professionals involved in Diabetes care to help patients avoid complications related to their condition.
